Official Rules of the "Year of the Rooster" Chalk Art Contest at the San Gabriel Lunar New Year Festival:

Application Deadline: Friday, January 20, 2017
Event Date: Saturday, January 28, 2017

Registration and Check-In:
Everyone is welcome to apply to participate in the chalk art contest. Each participant must register here. All approved participants will be contacted via email on further instructions. All participants must check in prior to beginning their artwork.

Chalk Festival Schedule:
Check-in begins at 10am. All participants may begin their artwork after they check in. At 4pm, photos of each chalk artwork will be taken for judging.

Theme:
2017 is the Year of the Fire Rooster, a sign of dawn and awakening. This year reflects that triumph and success can only be achieved through hard work and patience.

Space Assignments:
Spaces will be assigned randomly on a first-come, first-serve basis. Artists will be provided with a 4' x 4' paper. Spaces are limited, and will not be subject to transfer.

Material Restrictions:
Participants must bring their own chalk, brushes, and water. Artists are welcome to provide their own hard surface to place the 4' x 4' paper on while working (foam-core boards or mounting boards are great options). We have foam-core boards available for purchase at $12. Creativity is encouraged!

Winners: Artworks will be judged by the festival committee or by judges selected by the festival committee. Winners will be announced on the San Gabriel Lunar New Year Festival Facebook Page on the week following the Festival.
1st Place: $300
2nd Place: $100

Judging will be based on:
- Execution/Use of Materials
- Originality/Creativity
- Interpretation and Execution of Theme
- Overall Design

Additional Rules:
- Drawings must remain within the 4' x 4' paper provided.
- Drawings on any other surfaces are strictly prohibited.
- This is a family event. Artwork containing nudity, profanity, or content deemed inappropriate by the festival committee will be removed and the artist will be disqualified from the contest.
- The use of flammable or offensive odors may not be used. Failure to comply by these rules or guidelines may be grounds for dismissal.
